I’m delighted to chat with Lindsay Meyer Harley, a compassionate Portland-based mama of two, owner of children’s store Darling Clementine, and Founder of Still We Rise, an Instagram-based community auction dedicated to uplifting, supporting, and advocating for those with marginalized identities, who is all about doing good.
Read on as Lindsay shares some of her favorite local places to eat, shop, stay and soak up everything the bustling city of Portland has to offer.
Best places to eat in (including some kid friendly):
Por Que No – hands down our favorite spot in the city, we’ve been going since the week we moved here in 2015 with the best margaritas ever! Their kids menu is fantastic and the place is kid friendly.
Life of Pie – the best pizza in Portland with a happy hour deal you can’t beat.
Shalom Ya’ll – absolutely delicious Mediterranean food, including the best falafel in the city.
Best places to shop for mom and bebe?
Yo Store – they carry lots of brands I carry in my own shop, Darling Clementine so perhaps I’m partial to their eye, ha! This spot has the best selection for mama and kiddo with a good eye for vintage adult styles.
Powell’s Books – the best place to spend the afternoon, a fantastic kids selection too!
Portland Flea – outdoor flea market every weekend from spring to fall that includes tons of vintage vendors, makers and delicious snacks.
Best places to enjoy nature with kids?
Sauvie Island – go enjoy the u-pick farms and support our local farmers! A quick drive from the heart of the city, they have beaches too, perfect for warmer days.
Best places to enjoy art?
Portland Art Museum – it’s a wonderful spot to spend a day with your little ones, it’s small and manageable in size which can help when kids get restless! We’ve seen some gorgeous exhibits there including a recent Frida Khalo exhibit and an Egyptian art exhibit that was just stunning.
Best places to stay?
McMenamins in Portland – it’s in an old elementary school, complete with a soaking pool and a handful of restaurants scattered around the grounds in old classrooms, teacher’s lounge and even a bar in the boiler room. There’s even a small movie theater with comfy couches that show movies for kiddos + adults alike.
